A Scientific Approach to Mobility and Quality of Life

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of conditions affecting the muscles, bones, joints, connective tissues and nervous system. Modern lifestyles, sedentary work environments, aging, sports injuries, trauma and various medical conditions may lead to pain, reduced mobility and functional limitations over time.

The primary goal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is not only to address pain-related complaints, but also to support mobility, improve functional capacity, facilitate daily activities and help individuals maintain an active lifestyle.

Treatment programs are planned according to each individual's medical condition, lifestyle and functional needs. Following a comprehensive evaluation, personalized rehabilitation plans are developed to support an effective and sustainable recovery process.

What Is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation?

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a medical specialty that encompasses diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative approaches designed to reduce pain, improve mobility, enhance muscle strength and support functional independence.

In addition to managing existing health conditions, this field also plays an important role in preserving mobility, maintaining quality of life and helping prevent future functional limitations.

Core Principles of Our Treatment Process

Since every individual has unique healthcare needs, rehabilitation programs are tailored to each patient.

Comprehensive clinical assessment and accurate diagnosis
Personalized treatment and rehabilitation planning
Regular monitoring and controlled implementation
A holistic approach focused on functional improvement
Use of current evidence-based rehabilitation methods

This approach allows healthcare professionals to evaluate each patient comprehensively and develop an individualized rehabilitation program based on their specific needs.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Peripheral nerve injuries
Facial paralysis
Spinal cord injuries
Neurological conditions associated with muscle weakness

Individualized rehabilitation programs aim to improve functional capacity and help patients adapt to daily living activities more effectively.

Rheumatic Diseases

Rheumatic diseases may affect joints, muscles and connective tissues, leading to pain, stiffness and reduced mobility. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation approaches can help support functional capacity and quality of life.

Rheumatoid arthritis
Ankylosing spondylitis
Fibromyalgia
Other inflammatory joint diseases

Postoperative Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation programs following surgical procedures play an important role in supporting recovery and helping patients safely return to daily activities.

Rehabilitation following knee replacement surgery
Rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery
Rehabilitation following shoulder surgery
Rehabilitation following spinal surgery
Rehabilitation following ligament and tendon repair procedures
Rehabilitation after fractures and traumatic injuries

Lymphedema and Lipedema Management

Lymphedema and lipedema are conditions that may affect mobility, comfort and quality of life. Following a comprehensive assessment, individualized rehabilitation and management plans may be developed according to patient needs.

Lymphedema Management

Manual lymphatic drainage techniques
Compression bandaging applications
Compression garment planning
Exercise programs designed for lymphedema management
Skin care and preventive education

Lipedema Management

Comprehensive assessment and staging
Manual therapy applications
Compression-based approaches
Personalized exercise programs
Supportive approaches for pain management

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a common condition characterized by decreased bone density and increased bone fragility. It is more frequently observed in older adults and postmenopausal individuals.

Evaluation of bone density measurements
Bone-strengthening exercise programs
Balance and coordination training
Fall prevention strategies
Posture education

Early assessment and regular follow-up play an important role in maintaining bone health and reducing the risk of complications associated with osteoporosis.

Oncological Rehabilitation

Oncological rehabilitation focuses on supporting physical function during or after cancer treatment. Rehabilitation programs may be planned according to individual needs and functional goals.

Exercise programs designed to support muscle strength
Approaches for fatigue management
Shoulder mobility exercises
Rehabilitation strategies aimed at reducing lymphedema risk
Programs supporting overall functional capacity

When Should You Consider a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Evaluation?

A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation assessment may be beneficial not only for advanced conditions but also for early symptoms affecting mobility and daily function.

Persistent muscle and joint pain
Low back, neck or back pain
Limited mobility or reduced range of motion
Difficulty performing daily activities
Recovery following sports injuries
Postoperative rehabilitation needs
Balance and coordination difficulties
Muscle weakness or functional limitations

Early evaluation and appropriate rehabilitation planning may contribute to a more effective recovery process and improved functional outcomes.

Assessment and Evaluation Process

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation process begins with a comprehensive assessment. Symptoms, medical history and current functional status are carefully reviewed.

During the evaluation process:

Symptoms and medical history are assessed
Muscle strength and joint range of motion are evaluated
Postural analysis is performed
Balance and coordination are assessed
Functional capacity is evaluated
Relevant imaging studies and laboratory results are reviewed when available

Based on these findings, a personalized treatment and rehabilitation program is developed according to the patient's needs and goals.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Treatment Methods

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation programs may incorporate different treatment methods depending on the patient's diagnosis, clinical condition and functional needs. Treatment plans are developed individually following a comprehensive assessment.

Electrotherapy Applications

Electrotherapy methods may be used as part of rehabilitation programs designed to support pain management, muscle function and overall physical recovery.

TENS applications
Interferential current therapy
Muscle stimulation applications
Therapeutic ultrasound
High-Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT)

Techniques designed to help reduce muscle tension
Approaches supporting spinal and joint function

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy is one of the fundamental components of rehabilitation. Programs are individually designed according to each patient's functional goals and physical condition.

Strengthening exercises
Flexibility training
Balance and coordination exercises
Postural correction exercises
Functional movement training
Home exercise programs

Injection and Supportive Applications

Following medical evaluation, supportive procedures may be considered for suitable patients when clinically appropriate.

Periarticular applications
Soft tissue applications
Dry needling techniques
Kinesiology taping methods
Heat and cold applications

Personalized Rehabilitation Planning

Every individual has unique healthcare needs, daily routines and functional goals. For this reason, rehabilitation programs are tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

Planning considerations may include:

Age and general health status
Current functional capacity
Daily living activities
Occupational and social requirements
Physical performance level
Rehabilitation goals

This individualized approach helps create practical and sustainable rehabilitation programs.
